Shaq Wants to Become a UFC Fighter?

Some info on Shaq

When you first hear the name Shaq, you think of NBA superstar. He is one of the most dominant players in NBA history and without a doubt in my mind, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. From playing for teams like the Orlando Magic , Los Angeles Lakers, and the Miami Heat, he has managed to grab four championship rings for himself and has acquired a great deal of fame throughout his years playing in the league. Although he is reaching his pinnacle point in his NBA career, there has been much gossip that he wants a shot at the UFC.

Shaq in the UFC?

From the official beginning of the UFC in 1993, the confederation has seen many great fighters enter the arena, such as Tito Ortiz, Chuck Lidell, Matt Hughes, and Randy Couture. They were definitely some of the most impressive combatants to ever come into the organization, but Shaquille O’ Neal?

Where did he get the idea that NBA players simply just turn into UFC fighters right out of the blue?  Then again just take a look at Shaq’s size. He is a little over 7 feet tall and weighs over 320 pounds. You may think he looks big on TV, but imagine taking a glance at him in person and see if you aren’t stunned. His height alone is scary, but combined with his weight makes him a very deadly person to want to brawl against. I mean I don’t know anybody who would even want to get into a conflict with Shaq face to face, unless they were born with brain damage or something. His personality makes up for it though. Wherever you see him he’s usually smiling in a commercial or being humorous with the media and that has helped create a likeable and friendly image for him over the years.

As far as the rumors go, Shaq has had some talk with UFC president Dana White about wanting to get some UFC action and this is what Dana said:

“Shaq texts and Twitters me all the time saying he wants to fight Brock Lesnar. He’s been training for 10 years; Shaq’s probably the only dude in the NBA that can actually fight … I told Shaq, I said listen, ‘Win another NBA championship this year and then we’ll talk next year.”

Shaq vs. Chuck Lidell?

While Shaq anxiously wants to come into the organization, mainly to fight UFC champ Brock Lesnar, there has also been talk that MMA sensation Chuck Lidell is one man that might be up to the challenge to fight him. In terms of advantage, even with Chuck’s experience and tremendous fighting skills I think Shaq would still be the favorite. Not only because of his size and the fact that he would be very hard to bring down, but as Dana White said, he has been training in mixed martial arts for the past 10 years so that means he’s definitely mentally prepared. He mainly trains in the off season to stay fit, but apparently that wasn’t the only reason as you can see. For those of you who don’t think that Shaq is serious, just take a look at this video:

Only time will tell if Shaq’s profound wish comes true. All I can say is if it does, the UFC world will surely be in for a treat!
